No, I’m not subjecting you to a photo of myself hunting from an outhouse. The picture with this post is of me in one of the shooting houses Domaine Shannon of Maniwaki, Quebec has its 50-plus bear hunting locations. Yes, it looks like an outhouse, but it’s not. There’s no hole in the floor. Yes, I’m sure.
Anyway, a “funny” buddy back home knows where I am, what I’m doing and that we have wifi access back at the main lodge. So he sees this story on the World News on msnbc.com website, attaches it to an email and sends it on to me. The headline is:
Grabbed from the ‘throne’: Man on camping trip survives outhouse bear attack
Apparently this elderly gentleman and a buddy were on a spring fishing trip somewhere in Ontario. He was enjoying the view with the outhouse door open while partaking in his morning routine. Some bear came wandering into camp, took offense to the gentleman’s presence and proceeded to do something about it.
You can read the rest of the story yourself to see how it all turned out, but I have to say it gives a guy a moment’s pause reading this when he’s sitting in the equivalent of an outhouse 50 yards away from a bait site that he’s counting on luring in a 350-pound bear that’s been photographed by the scouting cameras.
I can tell you this! I will be keeping that half-inch thick chip board door shut – no matter how hot it gets in there or how pretty the view is out front! I’m no dummy.
