Last year I had a fabulous hunt with Bruno Rosich of Trophy Hunting Spain in his Beceite hunting area, so I was confident that our adventure this year would be just as good. Well, I was wrong… it was even more phenomenal and find it rather challenging to focus on getting ‘back to the real world’!
Tom and I saw Spain in countless ways; from bull fights in Madrid, to Gredos Ibex hunting, to road trips taking us from the center to the northeastern part of Spain, to Roe deer hunting and fly fishing in the Pyrenees –this was a positively a magical European outdoor expedition.
Tom and I filmed two episodes for Eye of the Hunter that will feature the adventures we shared in; but I must admit that I hardly noticed the camera capturing my hunt as I was absolutely awestruck the entire time. Outside of the hunting (which I’ll later blog about) I loved the art of the Prado museum, lunches set in mountain meadows, siesta’s at the base of the Pyrenean Alps, the buttercups and red poppy flowers, stalking a young Gredos ibex in a national preserve (for the fun of it since hunting wasn’t legal there), cupping my hands to drink straight out stream, spinning in circles with my arms outstretched singing “the hills are alive with the sounds of music” like Maria Von Trapp, listening to the cuckoo birds make their calls (just like the clock), and enjoying the warmth of day until the sunset around 10:00pm.
Stepped in history, tradition and culture, I can’t imagine a more diverse hunting/fishing trip than one can experience in Spain.
Now, all I have are memories and jetlag! Do you have any tips for getting over jetlag?
