As a result of anti-hunters rearing their ugly heads, esteemed huntress, Melissa Bachman was canned by National Geographic in their series Ultimate Survivor Alaska.
To quote them: “The National Geographic Channel has carefully considered the public discussion of our series on surviving the wilds of Alaska currently in production and premiering sometime next year. Upon further reflection we plan to eliminate one of the survivalists from the ensemble cast, Melissa Bachman. Hunting is not the focus of the show, and we regret the misinformation that has clouded what we hope will be an exciting adventure series set in the incredible Alaskan landscape.”
My friend Kevin Paulson, of HuntingLife.com, reminded me that in November 2007, National Geographic published an article titled Conserving Hunters which <surprisingly> reveals how important hunters are in preserving wildlife! After re-reading this article, I find myself terribly confused as to what National Geographic stands for? Furthermore, I’m furious that National Geographic has no backbone to defend their decision to have a huntress on their survivor show… after all, what do they want? Bunny-loving, tree-huggin vegans trying to survive Alaska’s intense wilderness? (Although, that would be quite comical)!
Obviously the anti’s realize that women hunters are their greatest enemy –we’re the mothers, teachers and nurturers of society, so when we take part in, and speak positively about hunting, it destroys their efforts… after all, women aren’t supposed to be hunters -only Elmer Fudd-lookin’ guys.
So what can we hunters do? First, sign the petition to show your support of Melissa. Second, don’t be afraid to let Nat-Geo and their sponsors (Geico, Google, IBM, Oracle, RBC, and Shell) know how sportsmen are truly unhappy with their support of the anti hunting movement… as for me, I’ll be writing letters, boycotting Nat-Geo and their sponsors (until they change their ways), and encouraging others to do the same!
