Finally! I Can Climb Mountains!

Finally I Can Climb Mountains

For years I’ve whined about having to wear clothing that just doesn’t fit; either I’m so puffed up that I look like Ralphie’s little brother in ‘A Christmas Story’ or I’m wearing gear that won’t allow me to shoulder my firearm or ascend a mountain without pulling my pant legs up with each bloody step. It isn’t easy being a huntress which is why I’ve been glad to see the various women’s hunting-clothing companies grow.

That said, I had always been jealous of the guys looking so svelte in their Sitka gear -again, here I am, the Michelin man waddling around, while Fabio throws his sling over his shoulder and walks with almost a skip!

My husband and I stopped by Sitka’s corporate offices on our way home from an Eastern Montana mule deer hunt. Since Tom often dons their clothing on ‘Eye of The Hunter’, he wanted to say hello to Sitka’s director of marketing, David Brinker and Sitka’s founder, Jonathan Hart. During our visit, both Jonathan and David suggested I try out their men’s size small clothing.

A few weeks passed when a box arrived with various men’s size small Sitka product (Mountain Ascent Pants, 90% Jacket, Core Crew long sleeve shirt base layer, Traverse Shirt long sleeve with a 1/2 zipper at the top and the Kelvin Lite Vest). Apprehensively, I tried on the clothing piece by piece; with each change of outfit I grew excited swinging my arms around pretending to shoulder a rifle and pulling my knees to my chest… I could move! Sitka fabrics utilize a 4-way stretch fabric and come in an athletic cut which happens fits a woman’s body too (crotch of pants weren’t at my knees & waist was on my waist!)! Of course I had to test it out in the snow and not once did I get a chill (key is to layer perfectly).

There are several important factors to a successful hunt -the right boots, the right optics and the right clothing… missing one of these components can make or break your hunt. Sitka isn’t cheap, but it isn’t overpriced either and I highly suggest that BOTH hunters and huntresses look into this product before falling into the trap of buying a cheaper/worthless product.
